The POP Project distributes free books to agencies and organizations in Asheville and WNC whose clients would benefit from a greater access to books.
We are in need of several enthusiastic long-term volunteers to organize our donations of adult-level reading books and keep the process of distributing them flowing smoothly. You would do all or part of the following:
- Coordinate with existing contacts about upcoming book deliveries.
- Cultivate new contacts within community organizations about accepting book deliveries.
- Sort books according to delivery needs.
- Deliver books to local agencies at arranged times.
- Record details about each delivery for POP's records.
- Contribute photos and details promptly for POP's use on social media.
Delivery locations include area shelters, food pantries, veteran's agencies, detention centers, etc. The schedule would be part-time and extremely flexible. Some work would be done at our storage units (one is not air-conditioned or heated) and involve lifting, sorting, carrying, delivering boxes of books by car. (Mileage outside of Buncombe County is reimbursed by gas card!)
We need someone with a flare for organizing and who is comfortable communicating with other community organizations regarding their needs, scheduling deliveries, etc. Someone who will represent the organization professionally and is an independent thinker and worker.
Computer literacy required for light record-keeping and social media. Comfort using simple spreadsheet helpful (how many books in, how many sent out and to which organizations, etc.). The record-keeping and related tasks can be done from home. Personal transportation required for book deliveries.
